The Greatest of These is LOVE

1 Corinthians 13
Verses 1-3 All you need is love
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Verses 4-7 Love changes everything
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Verses 8-13 Love is the greatest thing
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love

One of our greatest needs as human beings is to be loved. We all need love.
We need to know that we are important to somebody, that somebody truly cares about us, wants us, and accepts us unconditionally.
The good news from God’s Word is that somebody does.
To know Him is to find release from the crippling effects of feeling unloved.
Love is one of the warmest words in the English language, and that
God is love is one of the most sublime, uplifting, and reassuring truths known to mankind.
Love is His nature. It is not merely a friendly attitude He projects.
It is the essence of His being. He is always going to act toward us in love because He cannot do otherwise.
Love is the way He is.

Great Composer of Film Music - Ennio Morricone

Ennio Morricone (born 10 November 1928 in Rome) is an Italian composer especially noted for his film scores. He has composed the scores of more than 500 films and TV series. Although only 30 of these are for Western films, it is for this work which he is best known. Morricone’s sparse style of composition for the genre is particularly exemplified by the soundtracks of the classic spaghetti westerns The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Sergio Leone, 1966) and Once Upon A Time In The West (Sergio Leone, 1968).

He received his first Nastro d’Argento in 1970 for the music in Metti, Una Sera A Cena (Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, 1969) and his second only a year later for Sacco and Vanzetti (Guiliano Montaldo, 1971). He received his first nomination for an Academy Award in 1979 for the score to Days of Heaven (Terrence Malick, 1978) and another in 1986 for The Mission, 1987 for The Untouchables (Brian De Palma, 1987), 1991 for Bugsy (Barry Levinson, 1991) and 2001 for Malèna (Giuseppe Tornatore, 2000).

In 2003 he scored the Japanese Taiga drama about Miyamoto Musashi, Japan’s legendary warrior. In 2005 he was on a world tour with the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra, touring from cities like New York, Bilbao, Bratislava and Tokyo. In 2006, Morricone collaborated with Morrissey by composing the string part for his song “Dear God Please Help Me”, recorded in Rome’s Forum Music Village Studios. In recognition of his vast body of work and dedication, Morricone received an honorary Academy Award in 2007.

Trivia
Father of Marco, Alessandra, Andrea Morricone and Giovanni Morricone.
Heavy-metal band Metallica starts their shows with Morricone's instrumental "The Ecstasy Of Gold" (from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)) before appearing on stage.
It's been felt by some that he was deprived of a possible Academy Award when the U.S. distributor of Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America (1984) failed to file the paperwork so the score could be considered for nomination. This score is still regarded as one of his best.
Member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984
Refuses to move to Hollywood despite being offered a villa by a studio.
Studied at the Conservatory of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia.
Member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 1992.
Has worked with director Sergio Leone in numerous films, in fact, it was Leone's trademark to work with Morricone.
Supporter of the Italian center-left Democratic Party (PD) led by Walter Veltroni.
After more than 40 years of working with Clint Eastwood, Morricone's speech was translated from Italian to English by him at the 2007 Oscars.
Frequently uses Edda Dell'Orso to provide haunting wordless vocals on his film scores.
He composed the official theme for the Argentina '78 World Cup.
Co-wrote "It couldn't happen here" with the British pop duo Pet Shop Boys for their 1987 album "Actually".

Personal Quote
"I'm not linked to one genre or another. I like to change, so there's no risk of getting bored. I enjoy all sorts of films and I don't consider myself a horror fan, although I do like Dario Argento's and John Carpenter's movies."

Blessed are the Merciful

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7, NIV

The merciful, says Jesus, are blessed.

Grace is a loving response when love is undeserved,
and mercy is a loving response prompted by the misery and
helplessness of the one on whom the love is to be showered.
Grace answers to the undeserving; mercy answers to the miserable.
D. A. Carson, The Sermon on the Mount

I remembered that I took a Christian Personality Test many years back in a church camp.
We were asked to do so because the topic of the sermon is "Spiritual Gifts".
I was curious to know my gifts - could it be teaching, because that's my profession.

When the results of the test appear, I was quite shocked - my topmost spiritual gift is MERCY!
At that time I was too young to understand the significance of this gift
- where and when will I need to use mercy?
Now I realised I have been exercising this gift everyday.

Where is God when bad things happen?

We often ask ourselves this question. Below is an extract of an article which answer this question.

1. Accidents and even mayhem are a part of life in a fallen world.
Jesus told us to expect pain and difficulties in this life. "In this world you will have trouble," He warned His disciples in John 16:33. And to the public at large, He said this about the future: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places" (Matthew 24:7). It isn't a pleasant thought, but that's the way life is sometimes in this fallen world. It may shock us, but it shouldn't surprise us.
Tragedies are always agonizing and often senseless. But thank God, that is not where the story ends.

2. God is in control, even when it doesn't seem as if He is.
The Bible insists that God is sovereign, that "His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation... He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: 'What have you done?'" (Daniel 4:34-35). Even when tragedies occur and innocent life is taken or maimed, God remains in ultimate control. Nothing happens that does not first pass through His loving hands.
We may not fully understand how this can be when we face painful tragedies, but our lack of understanding does not diminish or destroy its truth. Before we were born, God knew exactly how long we would live and how we would die. "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be," the psalmist said to God in Psalm 139:16. And that remains true whether those days are many or few.

3. God has a purpose in what He allows, even if we don't know what it is.
From our perspective, tragedies look meaningless and senseless and chaotic, but God knows how to take even tragedies and bring good out of them. Although I do not believe that God causes all tragedies, I do believe He has a purpose in allowing painful events to occur. Nothing that happens is a mad, meaningless accident. We may not understand what His purposes are, but we can take comfort in the fact that they exist. God knows how to take tragedy and bring good out of it. When we get home to heaven, we will finally see His purposes even in the tragedies of life. Meanwhile, we must continue to believe that He does have a purpose in everything that happens even if right now we are unable to see a shadow of what that might be.

4. Tragedy can serve as a wake-up call.
Oxford professor C. S. Lewis wrote years ago that "pain is God's megaphone to a deaf world." In that way, some tragedies may serve as wake-up calls for spiritually sleeping people.
A stubborn, secular, and even blasphemous society sometimes will be stopped short only when a tragedy of national proportions takes place. In the flood of media reports, sometimes redemptive truth gets out. Thank God, perhaps, that He allows tragedy to so grab people. But what a shame that it takes such a horrendous wake-up call for us to open our sleepy eyes.

5. It is possible to embrace hope even in the midst of tragedy.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to endure a tragedy without the hope that God offers. Without Jesus Christ, there is no hope. There is simply an eternal, black, cold, and unrelenting void.
Of course, we Christians grieve when those we love are taken from us, but we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We do not believe that people cease to exist (except as memories) when they die; the Bible tells us that we will again see all those loved ones who put their faith in Christ. As the apostle Paul writes, "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who die, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have died in him" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14).
Hope is readily available to all of us, even in the midst of tragedy. And not only hope for eternal life and hope of being reunited with those we love. Hope is available right now, square in the middle of tragedy, because God has promised to walk with us through any disaster that might overtake us.

6. This world is not our final home.
When loved ones die in tragic accidents or at the hands of wicked men, it is good to remember that this world is not our final home.
We were created for eternity, and tragedy can never change that. This is only a transition period, a prelude, to what God really has in mind for us. But because we usually look only at the present, we often consider someone's death premature or untimely. Our perspective is enormously limited. We tend to look only at what could have been (and in our minds, should have been) down here on earth. But God looks at all of eternity. If we are to cope with tragedy, we must learn to look at it through eternity's lens.

From the words of the pianist:
I always loved playing the piano. Since young, I loved sitting at the piano and just play whatever that comes into my mind. When listening to music, I am usually attracted to songs that have a memorable melodies, music that touches you, music that are played from your heart. I believed they more or less have some influence on the style of my music.

Bridge Of Time is a collections of some of my piano music that I have written throughout the years. It is an album about friendship, love, freedom and separation. All these are something that each one of us will experienced at some stage of our lives. My greatest wish is that it will connect to the hearts of those who listen.

Thank you for sharing this with me!

David Lanz (born June 28, 1950 in Seattle, Washington) is a Grammy-nominated New Age pianist. His most popular album, Cristofori's Dream, topped the New Age charts in 1988, which was No. 1 on Billboard's first adult alternative/New Age chart for 27 weeks and eventually sold platinum.

David Lanz attributes his interest in the piano to experiences during his childhood in the Pacific Northwest. He said, "As children, the piano is one of the first 'machines' we come in contact with, and one of the first we are allowed to explore."

One of the other reasons that he enjoyed the piano was because of his mother. His mother played songs by Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole on the piano, and became David's first musical mentor.

His early albums of solo piano works are still among the Narada label's best-sellers. His two collaborative efforts with guitarist Paul Speer also hit the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart; yet as Lanz's national popularity grew, he began to experiment with works for larger and larger ensembles, culminating in full orchestral accompaniments on Skyline Firedance (1990). With 1991's Return to the Heart, he journeyed back to his solo piano roots, and made his vocal debut on 1993's Bridge of Dreams. Lanz remained prolific throughout the decade, resurfacing in 1994 with Christmas Eve; Sacred Road followed in 1996, and two years later he returned with Songs from an English Garden. Next was An Evening with David Lanz, issued in 1999; East of the Moon appeared a year later and many more follows.

Lanz has said, "[The piano] is the most divinely inspired instrument on the planet. It presents a great attraction to our left-right brain relationship. My goal is to create entertainment that also provides enlightenment."

In the front of his Musicbook, The David Lanz Collection, he writes: "At the piano, I'm able to communicate in a way that is very intimate and direct. My approach at music is a bit like talking to a friend. You don't have to be very complicated when you speak. If you say what's in your heart, it's usually very simple."
